Backswing:
  • First look at your target downrange for 3 seconds. Really focus on it.
  • Bring your eyes back to the ball and immediately do a forward press (just an inch or two).
  • The forward press starts the proper wrist cock for the golf swing. The back of the right hand should be cocked back to the top of the forearm. Think about it…
  • Next (continue the motion of the forward press, no stopping), bring the club back smoothly and somewhat slowly, turning the shoulders, keeping the left arm reasonably straight until your belly button is over your right foot.
  • Important - Don’t intentionally rotate your hips. I know, this is heresy. Your spine is MUCH happier tilting than twisting. In the backswing, tilt your left hip down as you turn the shoulders, let your left knee rise and move toward your right knee, and let your left heel come off the ground. Your hips WILL rotate a little, but WILL NOT put a strain on your spine.
Final backswing position?
  • Club head back to a tense but comfortable position.
  • Right hand cocked back towards top of forearm
  • Belly button over right foot
  • Left knee cocked
  • Left heel off the ground
  • Right knee slightly bent
Ready for the golf swing moment of truth?

Go on to the Down Swing:
  • Start the down swing by driving your right knee towards the ball.
  • Slightly behind this motion you will tilt your right hip down and the left hip up. Actually it happens almost automatically with the drive of the right knee at your ball.
  • What is incredible is that the shoulders, arms and hands come through almost automatically and precisely on plane with a square clubface. The key is the smooth power that came from a proper back swing and setup.
  • Let the power of the swing pull you into a full finish. Don't hold back. Let it happen.

Hey! Nice swing!
